Seeking Attention

I came across a quote by Charles Schwab that says “a man can succeed at almost anything for which he has unlimited enthusiasm.”  And I was wondering “if this quote is true then I can be superstar in the company by just tapping on my motivation”.

So what motivates me at work? I have this question linger in my mind all day as if there was no other thing to ask.  But at the end of the day I came up with nothing. So I asked myself “when was the time I felt good about myself at work?” Aha! There it was, a lot of happy moments flashed in my head like power point slides. So I picked out 5 of when I was most happy.
  1.  When I was greeted by the General Manager to welcome me to as a new team member.
  2. When I was praise by my manager for a job well done even if it was part of my job.
  3. When I was given the opportunity to learn other tasks so I can develop myself further into a higher role.
  4.  When I was asked for my opinion about something at work.
  5. When I had a chit chat with my manager and he asked me about my family, what they do, how they are, etc.

I have noticed that what motivates me the most is when I feel I am given importance, when I am being noticed. Yeah, call me attention seeker but don’t we all seek attention? Of course we all do.

Perhaps companies these days should add attention to the criteria on employee surveys and if they indicate attention last that means they are scared of you as their manager and they want you to leave them alone. Think about it.
